About Me

As a child I lived in
Germany and grew up with several dog breeds - Great Danes, Rottweilers, and,
of course, German Shepherds. As a young adult I moved to America and my
first owned-dog was a Boxer. I later added another breed to my household, my
childhood dream, an English Bulldog who loved being shown in Conformation. I
was devastated when he passed away, but found another handsome male and then
added a beautiful little girl, and later had my first litter. I was
involved in Bulldogs for many years.
In 1980 I saw a magazine cover picture of the strangest-looking dog that I
had ever seen - a Chinese Shar-Pei. After finding a reputable breeder I
acquired my first Shar-Pei and he was soon joined by several more. They
were shown in Conformation across the United States, first in Rare Breed and
Specialty Shows, and when the breed was recognized by the American Kennel
Club, in the Miscellaneous Class and later, upon full breed recognition, in
regular classes in A.K.C. shows.
My long-standing love for Sight Hounds still prevailed and, in 1985 Borzoi
were added to my household. Some of them were shown in Conformation and Lure
Coursing. My kennel name, Borsha, is a result of my having both Shar Pei and
Borzoi.
In 2004, after losing my last Borzoi to old age (14). I felt that it was
time for another breed. A friend of mine showed me a dog magazine in which
she had an ad. Reading the magazine I found an advertisement for a Perro de
Presa Canario. Being curious about the breed, and noting a breeder with a
local phone number. I called him and was invited to his kennel to see my
first Canario. I took one look and fell in love with the breed and knew
that I had to have one. My first Presa, a beautiful female, is fittingly
named Dulcie, which is Spanish for “sweet”. She was joined in 2006 by a
handsome male, Marco, and in 2007 by the inimitable Tank and the aptly-named
beautiful Bella. In 2008 I added a very special Cane Corso, Gia, to my
family.
I am a Charter member of our state’s second largest A.K.C. All Breed kennel
club, the Sawnee Mountain Kennel Club of Georgia, as well as a member of the
Dogo Canario Club of America. I live in the mountains of north Georgia (see
pictures below) where my Canario love to show their natural guardian
instincts and protect their household against wildlife, including coyotes
and an occasional bear, while also enjoying a treat – a trip to the city and
going to PetsMart, an American pet SuperStore, where they enjoy meeting
other dogs and their owners, posing for pictures with children, and being
goodwill ambassadors to the breed.
